LEG 3

Stewart Island to Napier – 620mn

LEG 3 – START

Galeforce “First night out of Stewart Island was the coldest sailing I have ever done! Extremely light winds and bitterly cold. Gloves, balaclavas, all the thermals on etc. There was no moon for this leg. The skies were mostly clear, and the stars were amazing. We never even saw the south island! Too far offshore.

Until the last night we felt we had a good shot at a PHRF leg win. It wad pretty devastating to get the breeze shut down and see the Motorboat had just made it around kidnappers and was creeping away.

Generally champagne sailing. Had a reef in for about 30 mins when reaching, but other than that, always the big gear.”

LEG 2

Mangonui to Stewart Island – 920nm

A story here of how Motorboat broke it’s prod on the west coast. How a call was put out for some help, and well, the cavalry came charging. Enjoy!

LEG 2 – START

Motorboat wrapping up an EPIC journey south for all the competitors in the SSANZ Round New Zealand race. Well done all, on good racing and staying safe. A real odyssey!

LEG 1

Auckland to Mangonui – 160nm

Words off Motorboat II for Leg 1 – “An awesome leg north, the boat really found its zone with a reef and the new Evolution A5 with breeze between 18-25 knots. We were able to keep enough height to stay close on the corners keeping the boat flat which really helped our VMG, the boat loved it! Not a lot of sleep was had, will have to work on that watch system thing on the next leg! Routing for Leg 2 looks predominately downwind at this stage, finishing sometime Saturday night if forecasts are to be believed.”
