About the boat:Motorboat II was second on both elapsed and corrected time in the #RNZ2019 and used this race as part of their warm-up for the 2020 Evolution Sails NZ #RNI2020.

Sailed by Damon Jolliffe & Josh Tucker, Motorboat II is an Elliott 10.5 by legendary designer Greg Elliott and has arguably the best sound system in the fleet!

Tell us a little about your sailing history/ backgroundWent sailing a couple of times, liked it, carried on doing it, now suffering from an incurable addiction.
What appeals most about doing the RNIIt’s the pinnacle of New Zealand Yacht Racing.
What are your essential food items during the race?Hot Sauce.
What will your meals be like during the race?The Michelin Star restaurant Motorboat II boasts nothing but the finest cuisine with breath taking waterfront views, aka
bacon, bacon wrapped in bacon, with bacon on the side.
What do you like most about the boat you are sailing on?It’s ours.
What sound system do you have on board? What’s likely to be playing?The biggest one – Fusion head unit, twin amps with a cooling fan and capacitor feed power supply, 3 sets of 8.8″ signature range speakers and a 10″ sub. BOOM BOOM!

Tell us a little about your sailing history/ backgroundQuite a bit of sail boating. 150,000 nm offshore sailing. pretty much invested my whole life to the sport.
What appeals most about doing the RNIAll of it.
What are your essential food items during the race?Bacon.
What will your meals be like during the race?Sausages wrapped in bacon.
What’s your favourite point of sail and why?3 sail reaching with the FRO (fractional code zero), Staysail and reefed main. Fast and easy.
What do you like most about the boat you are sailing on?It’s mine and its pimped.
Describe your skipper/co-skipper in 5 wordsAll over it on every level.
Tell us about the training and buildup that you have been doing for this race both on and off the water?Every long race possible.
What’s your favourite drink and why?Rum. It’s nice.
Will you be taking any luxury items on the race? – If so, what is it and why?Beanbags.

What’s your biggest fear when you think about the RNI?Breaking something. zero fear of the race itself or conditions, just a fear of failure.
Who’s your biggest opposition and why?Actually not sure, not something we really talk about.
Tell us about your biggest supportersWife Sara – always there for me, allows me to invest so much time and money into the race programmes.
What’s most exciting/challenging about this race for you?We really are putting everything into it, leaving no stone un-turned in our boat prep. Exciting to go into a race like this feeling that you really have done all you can in the prep and it’s down to how hard you push on the water.
What sound system do you have on board? What’s likely to be playing?Fusion, pretty obnoxious. A real mix of music from electronic (when we are trying to test the base), rock, classic rock, and some downbeat chill stuff. We really do have play lists for everything.
